|
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family environment, mental health of preschoolers and their mothers and parenting on preschooler’s behavior problem in 147 divorced families. Preschooler’s age range was from 2 years old to 5 years old. Results are as follows. First, mothers in middle class showed more controlling parenting and promoted more for children’s dependency on their mothers. Preschoolers in middle class showed more external behavior problems than those in poverty. Second, social support, economic support from ex-husband, child custody, preschooler’s difficult temperament, mother’s alcohol abuse, dysfunctional parenting were the significant predictor of both preschooler’s internalizing and externalizing behavior problems. Theoretical and therapeutical implications for preschoolers and their mothers in divorced family of results are discussed.
